The Short, Sweet, and Simplified explanation of area attacks.
Part 1.
Energy weapon area attacks.
The rules state that the attacker rolls his attack at a -5 then checks that result to all the defenders reflex defenses in the area of the attack. If the attack is greater than the defenders reflex defense then that defender takes full damage. If the attack is not high enough to beat the reflex defense of a defender, then that defender takes half damage. Things change a little for Jedi. If the attack is greater than the defenders reflex defense then that defender takes full damage, but the Jedi could then roll deflect. If the deflection roll is high enough to beat the attack, then the Jedi takes half damage. If the attack is not high enough to beat the reflex defense of a defender, then that defender takes half damage. The Jedi then uses deflect and if the roll beats the attack, then the Jedi take no damage.
The difference for grenades and missiles is a Jedi can’t deflect them.
