OK someone check this over, I think the problem is with my logic or the excel sheet. The following is Jim's character at level 5 without the Armor Mastery talent.
(no Armor) Level 5 = 22 Base = 10 Dex = +4 Feats = +2 Class = +1 Level = +5
(ST Armor) Level 5 = 22 Base = 10 Dex = +4 (3) Feats = +2 Class = +1 Level (armor) = +5 (0 +6)
Med Battle Armor Level 5 = 23 Base = 10 Dex = +4 (2) Feats = +2 Class = +1 Level (armor) = +5 (0 +8)
ST A = (+6 armor) (Max Dex = 3) Md A = (+8 armor) (Max Dex = 2)
The sheet doesn't change reflex defense after adding the talent. The talent says add Heroic Level + half of armor or just armor bonus, so correct me if I'm wrong but then wouldn't the information look like this?
(ST Armor) Level 5 = 24 Base = 10 Dex = +4 (3) Feats = +2 Class = +1 Level (armor) = +5 (0 +6) [5 + 1/2 armor (+3) = 8]
Med Battle Armor Level 5 = 24 Base = 10 Dex = +4 (2) Feats = +2 Class = +1 Level (armor) = +5 (0 +8) [5 + 1/2 armor (+4) = 9]
Am I right, or is the sheet right? For this example, it sucks taking medium armor due to the loss of Dex bonus. For these two examples there is no real difference in reflex defense for either armor, the 1/2 level will always be 3 and 4, and the dex loss will always be 2 and 3. The two armors will always be the same. Even the fort defense is the same.

It looks like the sheet isn't making the decision of which bonus is better. The Stormtrooper armor should add a +8 to his armor, +5 for level, and +3 for half the armor bonus. The Battlearmor should add +9, +5 for level and +4 for half the armor bonus. He will have 24 reflex defense in either armor. Medium and Heavy armor are going to be good for a character that has a lower dexterity attribute. I also think the Scum and Villany book has rules for modifications of equipment, and heavier armor has more room for modification. I don't think the sheet can decide when to apply the better bonus to his defenses, hence it's giving the lower bonus. If you level the character up past the armor bonus, you might see a change then.
